As I paint to express my own pain, I look at the dynamic force of Frida Kahlo and her body of work. I am drawn to people who talk about their pain openly, the way Frida did. I wanted to examine this powerful icon in my own style and explore her beautiful estetic. In this painting I play with an irrational colour palette, making her skin blue ( inspired by Tretchikoff). The background and her clothing are loose and adolescent allowing all the layers and history of the painting to peer through. To see more of this series see Past Lives.
